maandag
Today was both long and quick.
that's what she said
I drove the van back to the west side of the country, cleaned up the last bits in the apartment that needed to be cleaned, then took a train back to the east side of the country.
That was it, that was today.
Which... solidifies the move - we're officially moved!! 🎉
So annoyed that this needed to happen on one of the hotter days of the year, though...

It's so fucking hot today. I wanted to get Rhys' bed frame built up but only got so far before the attic heated up to god awful levels of hot.
My son doesn't even seem phased by the heat wtf.
I did manage to get my office desk and chair built, though! I also got our registration with the Enschede gemeente scheduled and started working through getting the last of my 401k sent to me. 😄
No luck on the internet front, we're gonna have to suck it up until Thursday. We just keep getting looped and the IVR is in Dutch so we have no idea how to get to a human... 😭
woensdag
Since I didn't have real internet today I did a very half assed work day. It's release day and normally I'm on the live streams but uh that ain't happening on my hotspot lol.
Made sure was prepped, though, because both Franck and I will not be attending. 😆 We just started a new summary thing at the beginning of the live stream and I was supposed to be there to help him through it but the internet company had other plans.
This just teaches me that I should never move during the two weeks in which the entire country basically shuts down. I would have probably had internet by now if it weren't summer holidays. 🫠
donderdag
Internet is installed! Holy butts, it's so fast, slow internet is just awful. 😭
Still made it so I really only had a half day today, and tomorrow is our biweekly project day (read: day off). Means I basically lost this entire week. 😅
Paulus and Ashley did great for the summary of this month's release! Always a bit odd when you start a new thing and then have to hand it off to someone immediately, but they were rockstars. 💪🏻

Trying to finish getting Rhys' bed frame put together but jfc is it hard to do this in the attic that gets so warm and also being so susceptible to heat exhaustion. I get tired so fast and need to take such a long break to have my body return back to its comfortable temperature.
Having a shit hypothalamus is the worst. Not to mention the medications I take that make it easier for heat to affect me.
We don't have a clothes washer yet so today I hand washed our clothing and hung them up to dry. What an oddly satisfying thing to do. There's a common trope that people with neurodivergences tend to not complete laundry - after doing this, I wonder if that's because it's just so easy to disconnect from the entire process by throwing it in the washer and dryer. Is it heavy work to do? Yes. Does it feel good to complete? Also yes.
I am intentional in doing things that break me out of my digital habits and do things with my hands. Washing clothing by hand was very much an intentional action, pulling me in the moment of the day rather than freaking out about the past or future.
I often think about how our current point in time exacerbates our neurodivergences because we don't keep our hands busy except with our magic hand mirrors with infinite digital access. Maintaining a healthy relationship with our digital lives is required in order to alleviate a lot of our extreme symptoms, but also it's nearly impossible to create this boundary with the way algorithms are.
Ironic to feel this way considering my job would not exist were it not for our digital lives. 😆
Very grateful for atproto, Bluesky's lack of a real algorithm, and also for breaking my scrolling habit.

Man fuck Overwatch Drives week. The last week of the season is where they encourage people to log on and earn pretty username banners for the next season. And it seems to bring out the worst fucking people in the game.
Toxic teammates in chat/voice, people who leave because they rage quit, and throwers.
And yet, I'll still play this stupid fucking game for 9-10 hours a day.
There's something seriously wrong with me. 😂

Alright, one week in the new place, and I can definitively say that my sleep issues have subsided. They seem to have been linked to the move, which makes sense. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to use my card for the van we rented because it's not a credit card.
But it feels really good being in a permanent home. The village is great. I genuinely cannot believe our luck with this move. LOOK AT THIS FUCKING FREE LIBRARY I FOUND IT'S SO FUCKING CUTE.
Incredibly grateful to everyone who helped us get here. Things aren't fully settled yet, but they are enough that we can finally put the last pieces of our new lives together.
It seems like every day something new and obscene happens in the US. I am so happy we're not there anymore, but also feel the largest amount of empathy for everyone else who can't do what we have.
